"Karijuku" is said to be the place where Yoritomo Minamoto got off his horse when he hunted "Fuji no Makigari" in 1193.The "Kariyadonogeba Sakura" that blooms there is said to be the oldest wild cherry tree in Japan (it is said to be over 800 years old).It was designated as a national special natural monument in March 1952(syouwa 27).
The flowering time is mid-April every year, and it is crowded with many cherry blossom viewing visitors.
Locally, rape blossoms are planted in the surrounding rice fields and efforts are being made to create landscapes even before the cherry blossom viewing season, which is now a tradition.(Diverted from Fujinomiya City HP)
